Arts Project Australia
Digital Imaging Project: APA is a centre of excellence that supports artists with intellectual disabilities, promoting their work and advocating for their inclusion within contemporary art practice. A pilot program, introducing digital imaging equipment and a specific art worker into the studio, was funded. The program was pitched at the younger artists in the studio and art works produced were included in an exhibition held in March 2012. The program was so successful and popular amongst the artists that it is to be extended to a four-day a week Digital Media Program in 2012, funded by APA. artsproject.org.au

Part Funding of CEO salary: The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is Australia’s leading asylum seeker organisation. It is a multi award-winning, independent and non-federal government funded human rights organisation. Kids Leaving Care Packs: Funds were used to purchase Kids Leaving Care packs for adolescents leaving their residential care units and setting up home independently. These packs help the recipients make a more successful transition into the community. berrystreet.org.au
Cancer Council of Victoria
The Forgotten Cancers Project: Funds went towards an epidemiological study aimed at addressing the lack of knowledge that exists about the causes of less common cancers (e.g. lymphoma, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, kidney, bladder and thyroid cancers). cancervic.org.au
Cheshire School
Scholarships: The Cheshire School provides a specialised 12-month Intervention Program to assist children from Prep through to Grade 6, who have demonstrated significant social, emotional and behavioural problems in their mainstream schooling. In a supportive and caring environment, Cheshire helps children and families to identify the fundamental causes of a child’s issues and to overcome the disruptive behaviours that may have become part of everyday life. REEF Camp Program for Disadvantaged Children: Funds were used for three camps for Grade 6 children from Geelong with health, economic or social issues. These camps help the children to build self-esteem, and develop self-reflection and community leadership skills. ccottagebythesea.com.au
The Fred Hollows Foundation
Anaemia Prevention Program (Sprinkles): Funds supported a program developed to combat the severe iron deficiencies in many indigenous infants in remote communities in the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. The program involves providing dietary supplements and general health education as preventative strategies to reduce the incidence of anaemia. hollows.org.au
Hamlin Fistula Relief and Aid Fund
Medical Equipment: The Hamlin Fistula Relief and Aid Fund are committed to the treatment and care of women with obstetric fistula and to the prevention of the condition in Ethiopia. Funds were used to purchase a vaginal probe/ X-ray unit, to improve diagnostic testing of patients, preparatory to surgery, and to improve patient safety and overall care at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. hamlinfistula.org.au
Koala Kid
Koala Kids Holiday Program/RCH Education Institute Consumables: Funds were used to supply entertainment for children with cancer and their siblings while the children waited at the hospital for treatment. Funds were also provided to purchase consumables used by the Education Institute at the hospital. koalakids.org.au
Lighthouse Foundation
Adult Community Transition Program: Lighthouse Foundation is an organisation dedicated to eliminating youth homelessness. They provide long-term neglected and abused children with a home and around-the-clock therapeutic care. Funds were used to support the Adult Community Transition Program for a home in Cheltenham, where young people learn independent living skills as they get ready to transition from Lighthouse back into the community. lighthousefoundation.org.au

Haiti Fund: Funds were used to support the work of MSF in Haiti, where the organisation runs six private hospitals. MSF’s priorities are obstetrics, trauma and emergency care. msf.org.au

Equipment: Mittagundi is an outdoor education centre established with the belief that young people, mountains, purposeful work and challenges are natural partners. Mittagundi is situated on a 400-acre property near the old gold mining town of Glen Valley in Victoria. Funds were used to purchase farm equipment. mittagundi.org.au

Anaesthetic Research Project: Funds went towards research on the use of Propofol in children. The aim is to devise an algorithm to guide doctors to know exactly how much Propofol anaesthetic to administer, which will lead to safer outcomes for young patients and a better quality recovery from surgical procedures. mcri.edu.au

AMSANT (Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance of the NT) Youth Leadership Gathering: AMSANT is the peak body for Aboriginal community-controlled health services (ACCHSs) in the Northern Territory and has played a pivotal role in advocating for, and supporting, the development of community-controlled health. Funds were used to develop a structured program incorporating practical leadership skills, cultural perspectives and career paths, and to enable emerging leaders to develop to their full potential.
Straight Talk Conference Leadership Workshops: Part-funding was provided for 56 indigenous women to attend the Straight Talk Conference in Canberra in September 2011, to meet with Federal politicians. The program aims to strengthen the skills of indigenous women, in order to help them bring about change in their communities. oxfam.org.au

The Peter F Williams AO International Surgery Grant, Myanmar Primary Trauma Care Program: Funding for three volunteer surgeons to deliver and supervise a Primary Trauma Care Program in Myanmar. The program focuses on training a number of Myanmar health professionals as PTC providers/practitioners and establishing a core of experienced PTC instructors.
Pacific Islands Fracture Management Course: The Pacific Islands Fracture Management Course in Fiji aims to build expertise in orthopaedic care, mainly in the area of trauma (road and industrial). RDNS Homeless Persons Program, Medical Consumables: The RDNS Homeless Persons Program is a dedicated service where specialist community nurses provide healthcare and support to people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness throughout Melbourne. Providing direct clinical interventions for acute and chronic conditions, medical consumables to support health recovery and supported referral to other services, the program aims to ensure that people experiencing homelessness have the same access to healthcare as the broader community. rdns.com.au

Secondbite
Food Angels Program: The Food Angels Program is targeted at families with young children suffering from food insecurity and poor nutrition in Tasmania. Funds were used for a six-week nutrition-focused education program, which aimed to build the confidence of participants to provide low-cost healthy meals for their families. SHINE for Kids
Peer Support Group: Shine for Kids supports children with a family member in the criminal justice system. The Peer Support group involved weekly group sessions with nine children at Walan Primary School for one term. rshineforkids.org.au
The Mirabel Foundation
Breaking The Cycle Program, Therapeutic Children’s Groups: Mirabel is the only organisation in Australia working with children orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use. This program provides therapeutic groups for children between 8 and 12 years old with the purpose of fostering family cohesion and developing relationships between children and kinship carers, who are parenting these children, while trying to break the cycle of addiction. mirabelfoundation.org.au

Girls at the Centre Program: G@C aims to counteract the high absenteeism and school drop-out rates of indigenous teenage girls and to support them to build constructive, mature relationships with each other, their schools, families and the broader community. Somebody’s Daughter Theatre Company
Highwater Theatre Company, Employment of specialist Maths teacher and trainee indigenous artist: SDTC works with disengaged, high-risk youth who have dropped out of school in the Albury-Wodonga area. Windana Youth Community House?
Employment of Youth Worker to support youth and family relationships (post withdrawal): Windana Youth Community House is located in Dandenong and is open to young people living in Victoria, aged between 12 and 21, who are experiencing issues related to drugs (including alcohol) and who require support during withdrawal and/or respite. A staff member was employed to improve links between young people (residents or ex-residents of Windana Youth Community House) in order to reduce re-entry rates. windana.org.au
